Four sources

I must gather 4 sources per week. I don't remember what can count as a source but unless your name is Ashley or Dave, then you probably don't care to read this.

1. Cormack, Robin. Byzantine Art. Oxford: Oxford UP, 2000. Print. This is actually the text book we are reading in my Byzantine art class.

2. Cormack, Robin. Painting the Soul: Icons, Death Masks, and Shrouds. London, UK: Reaktion, 1997. Print. I talked to Mark Johnson and he suggested that I read this if I am interested in the symbolism.

3. Byzantine Art in Athens

John Beckwith
The Burlington Magazine
Vol. 106, No. 738 (Sep., 1964), pp. 398-403

Article Stable URL: http://www.jstor.org/stable/874395
I was not sure where this article was going at first. Eventually, I figured out it was just describing a presumably temporary exhibition and described the pieces. Pretty boring, but it had images and described several pieces and where they are from. I don't know if it is normal to write entire articles about each piece of an exhibition or what, but I guess I will see.

4. Review: Byzantine Art

Steven Runciman
Reviewed work(s):
Byzantine Aesthetics by Gervase Mathew
The Classical Review
New Series, Vol. 14, No. 2 (Jun., 1964), pp. 205-206

Perhaps I should get better at discerning context when sorting through what articles come up when I type something as general as "Byzantine art". Anyways, this is actually a review and brief synopsis of Gervase's book "Byzantine Aesthetics". A printed copy of the review will be nice to read and take notes on after I don't have the book anymore.
